Self Employed? You need Disability Insurance
Being self-employed has amazing benefits such as the ability to create your own schedule, the flexibility to be with your family when you need to be, and control over many aspects of your business. Things do get tricky though when it comes to an emergency requiring you to take time off of work.
Traditionally, if you were working in a corporate setting and receiving group benefits something like an injury, unexpected medical event, car accident, or illness would generally grant you some appropriate time off of work for healing in which you would be compensated a percentage of your working salary. When you are self-employed, it’s important to investigate a disability insurance policy that would cover any unexpected incidents leaving you out of work. For many, insurance such as extended dental or eye care may not be worth the monthly payment if it makes more sense financially to just pay for the services and treatments out-right.
What is Disability Insurance?
Disability Insurance pays you a monthly benefit in the event that you become disabled or acquire a disability, leaving you unable to perform some or all of the substantial and important duties of your occupation.
In some cases, Private Disability insurance can come with a slightly higher fee which is a small price to pay for the peace of mind it’ll offer. Disability Insurance will cover a supplemental income while you are unable to work.
